Salix lasiandra ‘Pacific’
Also known as Shinng Willow. It is one of our largest native willows, reaching 20-60 ft. This native looks very similar to the cultivated species ‘Cardinalis’ This willow prefers a temperate climate, thriving in zones 5-8. Native range is British Columbia down through the PNW into the Sierra Nevada mountains. Bright yellow winter color in the landscape and is moderately deer resistant.
If you are looking for a willow native to the PNW, that will add color to the winter landscape and is somewhat deer resistant, this is a good choice. Should be good for basketry but we have not tried it.’ Pacific’ would make gorgeous living fences, huts, and tunnels.
‘Pacific’ is a good choice for PNW erosion control applications where native plant material is specified.
Probably the most deer resistant of the PNW natives.
