Also known as Shinng Willow. ‘Pacific’ is one of our largest native willows, reaching 20-60 ft. when left to grow uncoppiced. This native is a hardy, disease-resistant willow, that looks very similar to the cultivated fragilis variety ‘Cardinalis.’ It prefers a temperate climate, thriving in zones 5-8 and its native range is British Columbia down through the PNW into the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Bright yellow winter color in the landscape and is moderately deer resistant.
If you are looking for a willow native to the PNW, that will add color to the winter landscape and is somewhat deer resistant, this is a good choice. Should be acceptable for basketry, but we have not yet tried it.’ Pacific’ would make gorgeous living fences, huts, and tunnels.
