Salix purpurea ‘Nancy Saunders’ - An excellent choice for very fine basketry, Nancy Saunders has a wonderful color, reddish-purple, similar to Bleu, but with very fine, thin rods. It does tend to be branchy, and is also a beautiful shrub in the landscape.
In addition to being a great basketry willow, Rachel Siegfried, of Green and Gorgeous flower farm in England, told me when I visited that it’s one of her favorite plants for foliage, although I will admit that I haven’t gotten the best vase-life from it.
