Bundle of 6 Cuttings
Salix acutifolia ‘Blue Streak’
This willow develops a unique, waxy white bloom on its mature rods and has a graceful, elongated leaf. It is beautiful for accents in basketry and gorgeous in wreaths, because it turns a darker purple when dried, and acquires the frosty bloom, giving it a wintery wonderland appearance. It kind of reminds us of Narnia. However, the plants aren’t generous producers of rods, growing fewer rods per plant than most willows. It can be a good for living fences in certain situations, as its relatively sparse growth habit can make it easier to manage than more prolific willows. Adding to its beauty in the landscape, it produces plentiful smaller catkins on dark, reddish-brown stems. In spring and summer, the frosty looking rods and graceful, elongated leaves remind one of bamboo. Although it’s a little stingy, and takes some time to establish, Blue Streak is one of our favorites.
Grows 4’-8’ in a season for us when coppiced annually
